Town businesses in clean-up for tourism season
BUSINESS leaders are conducting their own spring-clean of Grantown’s High Street on June 9 as the tourism season starts to get into full swing.
The initiative is part of their “Keep it Local” campaign to make the Strathspey capital more appealing to shoppers.
Spokeswoman Janet Hartee, who runs Ewe and Me, said: “Highland Council will be bringing in a pavement sweeper in the next week or so to get the pavements cleaned of dirt and grit.
“Our aim is to encourage all High Street businesses and owners of private dwellings to step outside and take a fresh look at their property. We know many owners already keep their shops very well but we are asking if they would like a little help.
“A team will walk up the High Street next Wednesday armed with cleaning equipment and products. It is not a window-cleaning service – we will clean ledges and doors, remove any graffiti and generally work with business owners to spring-clean and freshen up.
“We have no idea what we will come across but it is done with a light-hearted manner to convey a serious message – we certainly do not want to offend anyone.”
She added: “Who knows, it may become an annual event.”
